Mercy Chinwo Sues VeryDarkMan

In a fiery response, VDM insisted that the judiciary cannot silence him, alleging that the warrant was part of a broader scheme to suppress his activism. He vowed to expose all those involved in what he described as an unlawful attempt to intimidate him.

VDM questioned the legitimacy of the court’s decision, revealing that his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, had six cases scheduled on the same day the warrant was issued. He also pointed out that he was in China at the time of the summons, making it impossible for him to attend the hearing.

The arrest warrant stems from a criminal defamation case filed by renowned gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. She accused VDM of making false allegations against her on social media, particularly linking her to a $345,000 financial dispute involving her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee.

Chinwo has vehemently denied the claims, providing the court with documentary evidence—including emails and payment receipts—to clear her name. She argues that VDM’s statements have tarnished her reputation and public image.

On March 13, 2025, Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna of the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, issued a bench warrant for VDM’s arrest after he failed to appear in court on March 5, despite being duly summoned. The magistrate directed law enforcement agencies to apprehend and present him before the court.

VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, pleaded for the opportunity to bring his client to court voluntarily, but the judge refused to lift the warrant, insisting that security agencies enforce the order.

In addition to the criminal defamation case, Mercy Chinwo has also filed a ₦1.1 billion lawsuit against VDM at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory. She is demanding a public retraction of his statements, the deletion of the alleged defamatory posts, and a formal apology.

Her legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, argues that VDM’s actions violate Section 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24 (1)(B) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.
