A source from the EFCC confirmed to a local radio station in Kano that Murja is currently being held at the commission’s facility. This arrest is part of a wider crackdown by the EFCC on the practice of spraying money at social gatherings, such as parties and birthdays. In recent times, other TikTok personalities, including Al’amin G-Fresh and Ashir Idris, have also been arrested for similar offenses.

At the moment, neither the EFCC nor Murja’s legal team has issued an official statement regarding her arrest.

Meanwhile, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, have both cautioned Nigerians against damaging or mishandling the Naira. Speaking at a security workshop in Abuja, they emphasized the importance of respecting the national currency and warned that its abuse has negative economic consequences.

Cardoso revealed that recent investigations in major commercial cities like Abuja, Asaba, Awka, Benin, Ilorin, Kano, and Ibadan exposed widespread abuse and illegal trading of Naira notes.

“A critical concern that arises from these transactions is an illegal act and a premium charged on banknotes ranging from 20 percent to 40 percent per transaction,” he said.

He further disclosed, “The gravity of this situation is further exposed by a recent exercise where banknotes amounting to N2.3 million were acquired with a total payment, including premiums, of N3.2 million. The blatant disregard for our nation’s legal tender not only weakens the value of the Naira but also erodes respect for our national identity. If we disrespect it this way and expect a strong Naira, we are deceiving ourselves.”

The CBN Governor called for stricter measures to curb these practices and urged law enforcement agencies to take action against individuals involved in illegal currency dealings.

“By sending a strong message to the public that these actions will not be tolerated, we can foster a sense of responsibility and respect towards our currency,” he added.

Similarly, the National Security Adviser, Ribadu, emphasized the need for more stringent enforcement against those who abuse the local currency. He urged law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts in tackling such offenses and implement tougher regulations to prevent further misuse of the Naira.
