Video: Nigeria’s Youngest OAP Gets Contract, Scholarship
By Benjamin Abioye

A heartwarming moment has captured the attention of many after a young boy, who was discovered reading Yoruba news while washing plates, was offered a job as the youngest on-air personality at Agidigbo FM.
The station’s owner, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, not only recognized the boy’s talent but also gave him an employment contract, committing to sponsor his education and train him in broadcasting.
The boy gained public attention after a video of him went viral. In the clip, he was seen sitting outside while washing dishes and playfully reading the Yoruba news as if he were live on air. His performance was flawless, and his confidence stood out. Using his friend as the subject of the news, he delivered the news fluently, impressing viewers with his natural talent.
Not long after, the video reached Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, who invited the boy to Agidigbo FM’s studio. Once there, he was asked to replicate what he had done in the viral clip. Again, he delivered the news effortlessly, leaving everyone in the studio amazed.
In an emotional moment, Oriyomi Hamzat presented the boy with an employment letter, officially making him a part of the Agidigbo FM team. The contract not only gave him a platform to showcase his skills but also included full sponsorship of his education, professional training in broadcasting, and a monthly salary until he graduates.
Hamzat explained that the goal is to nurture the boy’s talent while ensuring he gets the education he deserves. This rare gesture has been widely praised, as it is uncommon to see such opportunities given to young talents in Nigeria, especially in the southwest.
Many Nigerians have taken to social media to celebrate the boy’s success, with some calling for him to be recognized in the Guinness World Records.
@Grace_Emmah_ wrote, “Congratulations to him, he deserves to be in the Guinness book!”
@daddilaz commented, “The power of social media… Watched his first video and now his dream has become a reality. God be praised!”
Others praised the importance of discovering talents at a young age. @imbirdfriend tweeted, “Nice step. Choosing your career path at an early stage is the best thing! Congratulations to him.”
However, not everyone was impressed. @BroEmobic questioned, “So what happens to the thousands of graduates on the street searching for this kind of job?” Meanwhile, @stannuber had a more cynical take, saying, “In Nigeria, we celebrate rubbish.”
Despite the mixed reactions, the overwhelming sentiment remains one of joy and admiration for the young boy’s journey. His story serves as a reminder of the power of social media in changing lives and the importance of supporting young talents.
With this opportunity, the young boy’s future in broadcasting looks bright, and many Nigerians will be following his journey closely.
