Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has sent the social media abuzz after revealing why she did not wear earrings, jewelry, or wigs during the early days of her music career.
In a video circulating on social media, Tope Alabi clarified that her decision on jewelry and wigs was never based on divine instruction but rather on financial limitations.
Tope Alabi disclosed that contrary to widespread assumptions, she was never instructed by God to avoid jewelry or wigs. Instead, she simply could not afford them when she started her career.
She explained that many people misinterpreted her modest appearance, assuming it was a spiritual conviction rather than a financial reality.
“God has never told me not to wear earrings, chains, or wigs,” she stated
The singer further noted that her choice of accessories and outfits depends on the nature of her performances.
“I’m a theater practitioner to the core, so I understand what fits each song. If a song does not require me to wear earrings, I won’t use them in the video.
“In the past, people assumed I avoided earrings for religious reasons, but the truth is, I simply could not afford them at the time,” she added.
