Reno Omokri has called on Nigerians to boycott MTN over data hikes, urging them to switch to Glo, but many users complain about Glo’s poor network and reliability.

Reno Omokri has once again stirred up conversations online, and this time, it’s about MTN’s recent price hike.

The former presidential aide took to his X account to urge Nigerians to ditch MTN and switch to Glo, emphasizing that supporting a local brand would boost the economy.

“If MTN increases their data and call charges, simply boycott MTN and replace your MTN SIM with a Glo SIM,” he posted. According to him, instead of sending money to a foreign company, Nigerians should let it circulate within the country to create jobs and strengthen the naira.

His post quickly gained traction, sparking a flurry of reactions from social media users. While some supported the idea, many pointed out a major issue—Glo’s network quality.

“You have a very valid point, but Glo’s network is damn poor. Only if they can improve on their network,” a user, @mightyjoe357, replied.

Another user, @uc_yuccie, sarcastically noted, “It’s so easy to say. Lol. Glo is one of the most unreliable networks in my area. Now, I have to relocate to use the network, right?”

For some, the problem went beyond just network strength. @RealMeelo highlighted another concern: “I see people talking about Glo’s reception, but that isn’t the only problem. Glo is equally expensive. How do you guys forget about that?”

Others, however, questioned Omokri’s sincerity. “Nobody will listen to you. If MTN gives you money now, you will change your mouth,” wrote @osaMAXWELL.

Some users saw a solution rather than just criticism. “Glo needs to improve their network. If they do, people will switch without being told,” @Innomaxumeh suggested.

Despite the backlash, a few people agreed with Omokri’s stance. @OMOARESA01 shared a personal experience: “My Glo app gives me 2.5GB for ₦500 for two days. Make MTN shift, I beg.”

Others had mixed feelings. “MTN and Airtel are like legal Yahoo with good networks, but Glo is frustrating,” @sammyxxxxx6572 admitted.

It’s clear that Omokri’s call for a boycott struck a nerve, but whether Nigerians will actually switch from MTN to Glo depends on one thing—better service. Until then, most seem to agree: cheaper data means little if the network barely works.

Would you switch to Glo if they fixed their network issues? Or is MTN’s high price still the better evil?
