Lagos Road Closure Two Months

The federal government has announced that the Independence Bridge (Marina bound) in Lagos will be temporarily closed for repairs and maintenance.

According to a statement released on Monday, the bridge will be shut down starting April 1, and the work is expected to continue until the end of May 2025.

Drivers and other road users have been advised to take alternative routes to ease traffic congestion during the closure.

“The closure will affect traffic traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku towards Marina, Eko Bridge, and Onikan by Zone 2,” the statement said.

Motorists have also been encouraged to plan their trips in advance to avoid delays. The government apologized for any inconvenience and thanked the public for their cooperation, emphasizing that the repairs are necessary for safety and durability.

Meanwhile, besides the news of the closure of the Independence Bridge, reports indicate that the federal government has approved a contract for renovating Tin Can and Apapa ports, two of the major ports in Nigeria.

A multinational company has been awarded the contract following an approval by the Federal Executive Council in February 2024.

A source familiar with the project confirmed, “Yes, the award was given after it followed due process.” The Nigerian Ports Authority is expected to officially announce the details soon.
