Swimming In 2Baba’s Love, Natasha Osawaru Sinks In Edo House, Loses Position

The Edo State House of Assembly has removed Natasha Osawaru Irobosa from her position as Deputy Majority Leader, following a dramatic power shift triggered by the defection of four Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development, which took place on Monday, gave the APC a sudden majority in the House and led to an immediate shake-up in key leadership roles.

Natasha Osawaru, who has often made headlines for her close ties with Nigerian music star 2Baba, was one of several PDP lawmakers stripped of leadership positions. Alongside her, Charity Aiguobarueghian lost her role as Majority Leader, and Yekini Idaiye was removed as Chief Whip.

Despite the sweeping changes, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku and Deputy Speaker Maria Edeko—both of whom remain in the PDP—were not affected and retained their positions, at least for now.

The shake-up was initiated after a letter from the APC’s acting state chairman, Jarret Tenebe, formally communicated the party’s new numerical strength in the House. In response, the APC wasted no time filling the vacant leadership slots.

Jonathan Aigbokhan, representing Esan West, was announced as the new Majority Leader, while Addeh Emakhu Isibor of Esan North-East I took over as Deputy Leader. Lecky Hussein Mustapha of Etsako West I emerged as the new Chief Whip.

Speaker Agbebaku confirmed the leadership changes, stating that the PDP would now be expected to nominate new members for its remaining principal positions in the House.

As the dust settles, questions remain about the future of Natasha Osawaru and other displaced PDP leaders.
