Why Atiku, El-Rufai Others Met Buhari
By Gideon Ayeni

Former Vice President of Nigeria and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, led a high-profile delegation of political figures on a post-Eid-el-Fitr visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence.
According to a statement from Atiku’s Media Office, the visit was part of the former vice president’s Sallah engagements, which had earlier been delayed due to his traditional responsibilities in Adamawa State. As the Waziri Adamawa, Atiku stood in for the Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, during Sallah festivities in the state.
The delegation included notable political heavyweights such as former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai; former Sokoto State governor and current senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; and former Adamawa State governor, Senator Bindow Jibrilla. The visit comes amid growing speculations of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Others on the team were former Benue State governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam; former Imo State governor, Chief Achike Udenwa; Senator Idris Umar; Hon. Mohammed Kumalia; Captain Yahaya Abubakar; Alhaji Musa Halilu (Dujima Adamawa); and Alhaji Salisu Makarfi.
The delegation later joined former President Buhari for the Juma’ah prayer at a mosque in Kaduna.
The visit follows a similar one by governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), under the banner of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, who also paid homage to Buhari during the Sallah break. Their visit reignited speculations about a possible revival of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Buhari’s former political platform, which merged with others in 2013 to form the APC.
