PDP Governors Back Fubara
By Benjamin Abioye

PDP governors have reaffirmed their strong support for suspended Rivers Governor Fubara, emphasizing unity, resilience, and their commitment to addressing challenges within the party.
The Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has expressed concern over what he described as growing persecution against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the country.
He spoke during a reception hosted by the Oyo State Government for members of the PDP Governors’ Forum in Ibadan. The event, held at the University of Ibadan’s International Conference Centre, gave the governors a chance to discuss the party’s achievements and challenges.
In his remarks, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde shared confidence about the PDP’s future, especially looking ahead to the 2027 general elections. According to him, the party has learned valuable lessons and is now better prepared to lead the country once again.
Governor Makinde said, “If people are saying that our party has this issue or that issue, everyone, all organs of the party that are here have demonstrated total commitment to this party.”
He added, “PDP is going to where we want it to go, and by God’s grace, this is the party that will form the next government at the federal level.”
He also emphasized, “We have the capacity within the PDP, we have the people, we have the maturity to solve our internal issues. They should face their own internal issue… the 2027 election is going to be between APC and the people of Nigeria.”
Governor Bala Mohammed also addressed concerns about division in the party. He reassured the audience that the PDP remains united and is working together with its National Working Committee to move the party forward.
“We are here on a routine meeting of the PDP Governors Forum and of course it has become a tradition of reconnection, of reassessment and of course self-assessment of the governors in terms of sitting down and discussing governance,” he said.
He continued, “Some of those speculations that are mere lies, you can see we are together. We are united as a party. We are united together with our national working committee, working to ensure that all those disparaging issues are set aside.”
Mohammed noted the challenges of being in opposition, saying, “Coming from the opposition, we are swallowing a lot of melancholy, a lot of persecution these days but certainly we are standing tall.”
He praised PDP governors for their commitment to improving their states, citing positive examples from various regions. “All our governors are working very hard to ensure that at least we live in a society better than where we found it,” he said.
He went on to highlight developmental achievements in states like Oyo, Adamawa, Taraba, Zamfara, Osun, Bauchi, Enugu, and Akwa Ibom.
“These are the manifestations that determine good governors, and we are not doing it to be praised. We are doing it because we want to set the tone for governance,” he added.
Speaking about the political situation in Rivers State, Governor Mohammed said all PDP governors are standing behind the suspended governor and are hopeful he will resume his duties soon.
“Even in Rivers where we have the hiccups recently, definitely we assure you all the governors of the PDP and indeed all the governors of Nigeria are united behind Governor Fubara to ensure that he comes back and continue his good work,” he said.
He emphasized respect for legal processes but insisted that governors should also be respected. “We know our rights, and we are hardly afraid of anybody, but we respect everybody. What we also want is to be respected,” he said.
He added that their presence in Ibadan was not just for celebration but also to evaluate the party’s direction and progress.
“In this serene historical city, the traditional city of Ibadan… we are to discuss, not just to dance, to have a peer review mechanism on where we are and where we will go,” he said.
Governor Mohammed assured Nigerians that the PDP is determined to give them a better platform for governance.
“Nigeria has suffered so much, and I believe the PDP has learned its mistakes, and we are ready to work. We are not going to be disparaged by personal ambition,” he stated.
In his closing remarks, he commended Governor Makinde for his leadership and the visible progress in Oyo State. “Even the airport is wearing a new look… That is good governance,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of mutual respect and continued collaboration, adding, “While we are here, we will take time to discuss, interact, and learn from each other so that we can bequeath good governance on our respective states.”
