By Benjamin Abioye

Joy Ikoja, 20, was arraigned in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly injuring her boyfriend’s manhood during a fight over suspected cheating.
A 20-year-old woman named Joy Ikoja appeared before a Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday over allegations of assaulting her boyfriend and disturbing public peace.
Though her home address was not disclosed, Ikoja was charged with causing bodily harm and behaving in a way that could lead to a public disturbance. She denied the accusations and pleaded not guilty in court.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Adesegun, the incident happened around 8 p.m. on April 12 in the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti. He explained that Joy attacked her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman, after accusing him of being unfaithful.
“The defendant believed that her boyfriend (the complainant) was also dating her friend, so she decided to fight him and inflicted wounds on his genitals,” the prosecutor told the court.
Adesegun added that her actions were not only harmful but also capable of disrupting public peace. He said the offence goes against sections 186, 255, 256(a), and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He asked the court to postpone the case to give him time to bring his witnesses.
Joy’s lawyer, Mr. David Ogbede, requested that the court grant her bail.
However, Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola ordered that she be held in a correctional facility until the next hearing, which is scheduled for April 22.
