Peter Obi’s ‘Boy’ Cleared Of Armed Robbery Allegation

Alabi Quadri, the teenage supporter of Peter Obi who turned into an icon of the 2023 presidential campaign has been freed from prison after the Lagos State authorities affirmed that he was not in any way linked to the armed robbery allegation that caused him to be incarcerated for three months.

The teenager, who had gone viral during his time in custody, addressed the media on Thursday shortly after his release, accompanied by his lawyer, Effiong Inibehe.
The statement announcing Quadri’s release and his plans for the future was made more emotional by his plea for support. He called on kind Nigerians to assist his mother, who currently has no stable source of income. He also mentioned their hope to move to a better place. “I want to go to school… people should help my mother because she doesn’t have anything she’s doing… please, if anybody can help us, we want to leave where we are staying. If anybody can help us, we’d appreciate it,” Quadri said.
The teenager also thanked his family, legal team, and all Nigerians who supported him during his ordeal, which eventually led to his release and acquittal.
According to his lawyer, Effiong Inibehe, Quadri was freed following legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Babajide Martins. Martins told Magistrate A.O. Olorunfemi that there was no evidence linking Quadri to the armed robbery charge for which he had been detained.
In light of his acquittal, Inibehe is also seeking ₦100 million in compensation for Quadri, who is just 17 years old.
