Suspension Not Enough, Fubara Should’ve Been Impeached – Wike
By Gideon Ayeni

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his preference for the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara instead of the suspension from office as declared by President Bola Tinubu in the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.
Wike made his stance known during a media chat in Abuja, where he said the president’s approach in declaring emergency rule in resolving the political tension rocking the oil-rich state was a win for Fubara
According to him, suspending the governor, his deputy, and state lawmakers for six months was not enough, insisting that Fubara had already lost grip of the state’s affairs and should have been shown the way out.
GWG.ng reports that President Tinubu had taken the controversial step last month amid mounting political unrest and security threats, including a string of pipeline explosions. In a move seen by many as extraordinary, the president suspended the elected officials and appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as a sole administrator to steer the state temporarily.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and one of the most influential political figures in the state, maintained that while Tinubu was trying to avert a total breakdown of law and order, he believed removing Fubara completely would have been more effective instead of the state of emergency.
The crisis in Rivers has also deeply shaken the State House of Assembly, where 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), leading to the emergence of two rival factions within the legislature.
As the drama continues to unfold, political observers are watching closely to see whether the president’s emergency intervention will bring lasting stability or further inflame tensions in the volatile state.
