Eno APC Welcome Reactions

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has sparked political speculation after likening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a “spoilt plane,” suggesting he may soon jump ship to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Nigeria inches toward the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a Town Square meeting with constituents of the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency at the QIC Central School, Ikot Akpankuk, the governor expressed deep concerns about the crumbling structure and direction of the PDP.

Using aviation imagery to illustrate his point, Governor Eno asked, “If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline, and on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?”

The comment, which drew mixed reactions from the crowd, comes on the heels of a high-profile defection by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his cabinet—including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa—to the APC. Eno’s statement is being seen as a signal that he, too, may be preparing to follow suit.

Despite his veiled jab at the PDP, Governor Eno called on his constituents to remain supportive of his administration, promising that his government remains committed to grassroots engagement and delivery of democratic dividends.

Eno’s subtle swipe at the PDP and flirtation with the idea of switching parties has added to the uncertainty surrounding the opposition party, which many critics say is bleeding influence ahead of the next general elections.

With more defections looming and 2027 drawing closer, political watchers are keeping a close eye on Akwa Ibom to see whether Governor Eno will make the leap to the ruling party.
