Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has spoken out for the first time following his conviction and brief incarceration in prison for assault by a magistrate court in Ogun State.

Instead of reacting with anger or outrage following his brief prison experience, Portable shared a spiritual video online, which sparked a wave of mixed reactions from fans.

Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola, had been charged in connection to a 2022 assault case. and sent to prison after he was found not guilty of theft. The court convicted him on two counts of assault and conspiracy. Initially remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre, he was later released after paying a total fine of ₦30,000, instead of serving a three-month sentence.

Shortly after his release, Portable posted a video on Instagram that showed him holding what appeared to be a traditional charm. In the video, he prayed aloud in Yoruba, asking for peace of mind and financial blessings. He said, “I no want wahala again. I just want money, make money dey come.”

The video quickly went viral, and reactions poured in from fans and social media users. While some praised him for seemingly turning a new leaf, others mocked the display as another attempt to grab attention.

One user, @bosslady_ventures, wrote: “Portable please 😂😂 Eyin fans eh, he said he is okay oh 👏😂”.

@sarp_hotography___ added: “Now this guy no fit learn. Them suppose allow him go to prison for that 3 months.”

@mercicollett commented: “They will still rearrest him lol. Person wey always dey look for wahala.”

@successful__winner wrote: “Potable will always find means to trend every EKE market day 😂”

@tenovertenautos sarcastically remarked: “At least Fanta don sure for orisa them this night 👏👏👏👏”

@demanajazz asked: “So juju dey catch court of justice 😂😂😂”

In the same period, Portable also advised fans not to compare him to fellow artist Asake. He boldly claimed he looks more like American rapper Lil Wayne. Addressing rumours about his record label dealings, he said he doesn’t owe Empire Records and insisted that any money he spent came from Sony. He also declared himself a CEO, saying neither Empire nor Sony could tarnish his image.

Portable’s recent actions suggest he might be seeking change or at least a break from his usual controversies. Whether it’s a sincere transformation or another performance, public opinion remains sharply divided.
