2027: More Trouble For PDP, NNPP As Over 300 Members Defect To APC
By Gideon Ayeni

More than 300 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have dumped their parties and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.
The mass defection of the NNPP and PDP members to the APC took place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in Kawo, located in the Kaduna North Local Government Area. The event was described as a significant boost to the ruling party in the state.
Speaking at the defection ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Jamilu Haruna, hailed the development as a reflection of Governor Uba Sani’s effective leadership. Haruna said the governor’s achievements in security, education, food sufficiency, and overall welfare had not only impacted lives across the state but also earned him commendation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Haruna welcomed the new entrants, assuring them of fairness, inclusion, and opportunities for political growth within the APC.
Among the defectors was Usman Muhammad, a former senatorial aspirant under the PDP, who led 225 of his loyalists to the APC. He cited Governor Uba Sani’s inclusive governance and people-focused policies as the major reasons for their switch.
The event marks another milestone in the political realignment taking shape in Kaduna as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
