Man Sets Himself On Fire In Kano, Gives Reason
By Benjamin Abioye

A man shocked residents in Kano State after setting himself on fire, claiming he wanted to go to Paradise before igniting himself.
A man named Suleiman Muntari set himself on fire on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in the Diga area along Panshekara Road in Kano State. The shocking incident left many residents in disbelief.
Eyewitnesses said Muntari, who was originally from Niger State, poured petrol on his body and set himself ablaze. Before doing so, he reportedly told those around him that he wanted to go to “Paradise.”
“He said he wanted to go to Paradise. People thought he was joking, but before anyone could stop him, he had already poured petrol on himself and struck a match. Within seconds, he was on fire,” said Saminu Isah, an eyewitness.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, some residents who saw what happened believed Muntari was not in a stable state of mind. They suspected he might have been under the influence of drugs because of his strange behavior and smell.
“He was not in his right senses. You could smell something strong on him, and he was staggering and shouting strange things,” said Aisha Salisu, a local resident.
As the fire spread across his body, people around tried to save him, but their efforts came too late.
“People screamed and ran, some tried to pour water on him, but it was already too late,” Salisu added.
A few young men nearby quickly pulled him into a drainage filled with water, hoping it would stop the fire. However, by then, the damage had already been done.
“It was like a horror movie. Some young men tried to help by dragging him into the water, but the fire didn’t stop immediately. His skin was peeling,” said Ibrahim Jafar, a tricycle rider who saw the incident happen.
At the time this report was filed, the police in Kano had not yet issued any official statement about the incident.
