Video: Elon Musk’s SpaceX Rocket Explodes In Fiery Test Failure
By Benjamin Abioye

Elon Musk’s SpaceX faced another setback as its Starship rocket exploded during a ground test, marking its fourth failure in a row.
Elon Musk’s company SpaceX faced another problem this week. One of its Starship rockets exploded during a routine ground test on Wednesday, bursting into a huge fireball.
This is the fourth failure in a row for the rocket, which is meant to help NASA return astronauts to the moon by 2027. NASA is paying SpaceX around \$4 billion for the project.
Even though some earlier launches tested parts of the rocket successfully, they all ended with failures mid-flight. SpaceX has said that failure during testing is part of its plan. The company builds cheaper rocket models and tests them often. This way, they say they can improve faster than using slower, more careful methods.
The latest explosion comes as Elon Musk tries to rebuild his public image after stepping away from a controversial role in politics. Musk had served as a top advisor and led a government department before returning to focus on his companies like Tesla and SpaceX.
Back at Tesla, Musk is trying to promote safety and innovation. Tesla plans to launch its new self-driving robotaxi in Austin soon, with fewer than 20 vehicles at first. Musk warned the launch date might change. But lawmakers in Texas are asking Tesla to delay the service until September because of a new self-driving law.
Tesla’s stock price dropped earlier this week after reports said the company would pause production on some of its vehicles in Austin for maintenance. This is the third such shutdown this year. In Europe, Tesla is also struggling—Chinese automaker BYD sold more electric cars there than Tesla for the first time.
At his AI company, xAI, Musk is also facing issues. A recent report said xAI is spending \$1 billion a month. Musk responded by saying, “Bloomberg is talking nonsense.”
He also disagreed with a fact-check by his own AI chatbot, Grok. The chatbot said, “Since 2016, data suggests right-wing political violence has been more frequent and deadly.” Musk replied, “Major fail, as this is objectively false. Grok is parroting legacy media. Working on it.”
Despite these setbacks, Musk doesn’t seem too concerned. He recently said he hopes Starship can fly to Mars by the end of next year, although that seems unlikely now. After the recent rocket explosion, he posted, “Just a scratch,” and followed with “RIP Ship 36” and memes.
When someone asked Grok why Musk was posting memes, the chatbot replied, “The timing suggests it’s likely a humorous comment on the SpaceX Starship explosion that occurred on June 18, rather than targeting a specific person. Musk often uses memes to downplay such setbacks.” Musk responded with a bullseye emoji.
