Aviation Fuel: All Airlines In Nigeria Will Shut Down In 3 Days – Allen Onyema Warns

Airpeace Chairman, Onyema, has warned that Airlines in the country would shut down operations over lack of Aviation fuel.

Nigerian Airline operators are demanding operational licenses from the federal government to begin importation of fuel into the country following the recent fuel scarcity across the country.

Onyema said ‘We have only three more days, all airlines in Nigeria will shut down. We are not threatening this country, it is a fact”, he said.

He is currently speaking at a meeting of oil marketers and Airline operators with the NNPC CEO, Mele Kyari.

”I have the mandate of all airlines to demand that Airlines begin importation of fuel, if we can buy planes of millions of dollars, we can also import fuel ourselves. Let NNPC give Airlines licenses, we want to import ourselves.

Meanwhile, The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has directed its members, affiliates and other Civil Society Organisations to mobilise for a nationwide protest over the lingering fuel scarcity rocking Nigeria.

The development was contained in a statement signed by the coalition’s Director, Strategic Communication, Samaila Musa on Monday, March 7, 2022.

The statement reads, “The President should understand that some people very close to him and his appointees are the architects of the current fuel scarcity in the Country. Nigerians view the present situation as ultimate betrayal and breach of trust unless the President acts swiftly in the interest of the people to reverse this ugly trend.

“CNG, therefore, calls on Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and all other stakeholders against fuel subsidy removal to start strategizing and mobilising for a grand nationwide protest to demand the investigation and prosecution of all the functionaries creating this recurrent problem in the oil sector.

“With their actions, they have demonstrated that they can go to extremes to create problems so that in the long run, subsidy will be bastardised and eventually eliminated altogether.

“CNG will commence mobilisation in earnest so that all hands must be on deck to confront this problem of national significance. It is our collective patriotic and moral obligation to challenge this rascality, incompetence and economic sabotage in the interest of the nation and its impoverished citizens.”
