The final year student of Zaporozhye State Medical University Ukraine was preparing for his final year examination when the war began.
His father, Honourable Habibu Haliru Modachi, Member Sokoto state house, said: “Alhamdu Lilah, God gives, takes away life, and that’s how he wanted it to happen, there is no doubt about it.
“Had it been he died in Ukraine so many things would be said about him, that he was either killed by the Russian bombardment or had an accident or even accidentally shot and killed by the Ukrainian Army,” the father of the Nigerian student spoke of his son’s death two weeks after returning from Ukraine.
“We are grateful to God for having him died before us, we also thank the Nigerian government particularly Sokoto state for taking a hasty decision to evacuate them before full escalation of the War in Ukraine,” he said of the death of Modachi who died just two weeks after he was evacuated from Ukraine along with other Nigerian students.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that before the Russian invasion of Ukraine that the country had become one of the major destinations for Nigerians in search of stable education. Those unable to afford to travel abroad or resort to expensive private universities are forced to the public universities whose activities have been regularly truncated by strike actions.
