Five Killed As Thugs Scatter PDP’s Final Rally In Bayelsa

ive persons including a staff of Radio Bayelsa were shot dead on Wednesday when thugs attacked a rally of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP ahead of the state’s governorship election on Saturday in Nembe.
Mr. John Idumange, the general manager of Radio Bayelsa, confirmed that Mr. Simon Onu, the driver of the station’s Outside Broadcast Van, OBV was killed. He however did not give further details.
Witnesses said scores of people, mostly supporters of the PDP were injured in the attack and were rushed to the Nembe General Hospital and Government House Clinic, in Yenagoa, where doctors and nurses are battling to save their lives.
King Koko square venue for the rally which was to be the last lap of the PDP campaign for the November 16, 2019 governorship election was littered with chairs, tables and canopies destroyed.
Mr. Asinim Butswat, Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, said he was holding a meeting with the police commissioner and, therefore, could not speak on the incident when contacted.
