Obaseki Kicks As Edo PDP Exco Alleges Plot To Sink Party, Defect To Labour

Members of the State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State have accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of working to tie down the party in the state as he allegedly moves to defect to Labour Party.

The members of the SWC with the notable exception of the state chairman, Dr Anthony Aziegbemi, made the allegation in a petition addressed to the national chairman of the party, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu.
The assertion was immediately rebuffed by the governor who speaking through his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie said it was not true saying “how can the governor leave the party that he is building?”

In the petition obtained by GreenWhiteGreen GWG, the SWC members led by the deputy chairman of the party, Dr Harrison Omagbon and State Secretary, Hilary Otsu, they accused the governor and the panel sent to conduct the three man ad-hoc committee election of failing in their duty but working with the governor to write fictitious results.

The petition read in part:

SAVE EDO STATE FROM BECOMING ANOTHER ZAMFARA

The time has come for us to put out the facts for all to see, with a view to craving your indulgence and that of the National Working Committee, of our great party, to end the ubiquitous slide of our great Edo State PDP, on a very slippery slope.

Mr. Chairman, when on February 20th 2022, you visited Edo State at the instance of the Governor, H.E. Godwin Obaseki, the signs were visible to the blind that all is not well between the State Government and the Party. You may recall, sir, the brouhaha resulting from the 3 adhoc delegates’ congresses held on the 30th of April, for which an illegally obtained list was handed to the Congress Committee, by the State Governor, as against the list obtained from the Party’s legitimately conducted congresses, and sent to Abuja. For clarity and the avoidance of any doubt, we feel the need to present to you, the facts:

By this letter, we are putting you and the entire NWC   on notice that, Governor Obaseki has concluded plans  to procure nomination forms in Labour party, and vowed that PDP will be frustrated and prevented in featuring candidates for elections in Edo state. We implore you, to do what is  right :

a.       Ensuring that only aspirants and candidates produced under

legitimate and due processes as prescribed by the PDP Constitution and the Electoral Act, are presented by the Party.

b.       Calling Dr. Aziegbemi to order.

c.       Prevailing on the Executive Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to respect the ideals of the Party, even as it is now known that he intends to do damage and leave PDP for another Party.

d.       Upholding the PDP constitution, so that your tenure as National Chairman will be glorious. Nigerians are looking up to PDP to rescue our Nation.

The plot to defect to Labour Party by Obaseki was strongly rebuffed by his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie.
