ElDee Tackles Fan For Saying Beyonce Made Afrobeat A Success

Popular US-based Nigerian rapper, Lanre Dabiri is popularly known as eLDee da Don, has said it is very disrespectful to credit American singer, Beyonce Knowles for the success of Afrobeat.

The rapper who is also a former leader of the defunct hip-hop group, Trybesmen said this while reacting to an assumption by a social media user, who claimed that Beyoncé is instrumental to the success of the Afrobeats sound.

“To suggest that Beyoncé breathed life into afrobeat and made it global is so disrespectful. She was simply riding a clearly undeniable global wave with “the gift” of which, Wiz and Drake’s one dance arguably had a bigger and more profound global effect than the entire gift album.

“Give these African kids their proper respect for creating an undeniable global phenomenon and stop trying to give their flowers to colonizers, as usual,” said eLDee.

“Don’t diminish the hustle of those who made this movement global. This is what happens when we don’t tell our own stories. Please find time to see the Afrobeats backstory documentary by Ayo Shonaiya when it drops on Netflix on May 27!

“We suppose dey clear these people when dem misyarn because this is how truth becomes subjective. Small pikin wey see this article 10yrs from now go believe say na Beyonce create Afrobeats,” he posited.

“History being re-written to benefit western narratives as usual. We appreciate Beyonce’s contribution but it’s just that, and not a strong enough contribution to deserve being credited for the success of the genre,” he wrote.
