According to the electoral body, Ruto defeated Odinga with 50.49% votes, against his main opponent Odinga who gathered 48.85% votes.

Ruto is expected to take over from the current president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta when his tenure ends in August.

The outcome of the election had sparked massive unrest in the country leading to massive deployment of police in certain areas of the country to hinder post-election violence.

However, Odinga who spoke during a press conference after the announcement of the election results, stated that the election results is a disregard for the constitution of Kenya.

The former prime minister said, “Such action constitutes a threat to the security of the country. Justice will prevail.”
