Army Intervenes As Ijaw, Urhobo, Reignite Border Clash In Delta

The renewed fracas between two communities, Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh, of Delta state has claimed the life of a middle-aged man.

DSP Bright Edafe, Delta State police command spokesman, confirmed the man’s death during a fracas between the two communities on Friday.

Both communities share a boundary and have been embroiled in land disputes for centuries.

Ogbe-Ijoh communities, an Ijaw enclave, are located in Delta’s Warri South-West Local Government Area, while Aladja, an Urhobo ethnic nationality, is located in Udu Local Government Area.

“One person was killed in the shootout between the two communities,” Edafe said, “but normalcy has been restored.”

According to an eyewitness, peace returned to the communities after troops from the 3rd Battalion, Effurun, and police officers took control of the disputed area.

Meanwhile, a military source said troops discovered a lifeless body near the fracas and that the deceased belonged to one of the warring communities.

“A rifle mounted with a magazine loaded with nine rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition was discovered beside the deceased,” said the military personnel.

He also stated that a suspect identified as the deceased’s biological brother was apprehended nearby for questioning. (NAN)
