The Atiku Abubakar Campaign has warned youths against fanning the corruption allegations levelled against him by a former associate saying that it could deter the elderly from mentoring youths.

The campaign gave the caution as it also opened up on why the candidate ordered the deletion of the killing of Deborah Samuel, the Sokoto State College of Agriculture student who was murdered by Islamic fanatics in Sokoto.

GWG.ng reports that Atiku had recently been accused by a former associate, Michael Achimugu who accused the PDP candidate of using Special Purpose Vehicles, SPVs to steal money from federal contracts.

Campaign spokesman, Daniel Bwala speaking on Arise News Morning Show on Wednesday initially rebuffed questions on the trending issue saying:

“Actually, I don’t know him, I have never met him. With respect to the person I do not intend to dignify him. I am even told by the campaign that he has never at anytime been given any appointment whatever.

“Dino has called on him to present his appointment letter and he has not been able to do that.

Noting how the corruption allegation against Atiku by Achimugu could harm the youths, Bwala continued:

“Atiku is a bit different from other politicians. Atiku believes in young people being given opportunities. Atiku also believes in equal opportunities so you will not find a certain part of the country around him much more than other parts of the country. Some people are taking advantage of that special privilege that Atiku has given and I think that the conduct of that person ….

“Young people may be considered as blackmailers and I hope that message does not resonate with the elite or the elderly so that they come to have distrust for the younger ones.”

Before speaking on the impact of the corruption allegation levelled against Atiku could harm youths, Bwala also spoke on the deletion of the tweet on the killing of Deborah.

“Any notion that is given to why the tweet was deleted will be contrary to what he stood for is still standing for as a principle and character over the years.

“The reason why the tweet was deleted is that that tweet was made not by his authorization. His twitter handle is managed by aides and the procedure is that you confirm with him on tweets to publish because he is going to be held liable for the tweet because it is his official handle.

“That tweet was made without consultation with him. What he did was that he immediately asked that the tweet be deleted. But the follow-up was that he took a very hard position supporting the rule of law and condemning extra-judicial killing.”
