Naira Notes Deadline, Illegal -El-Rufai Dares Buhari In Counter Broadcast
The Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has advised residents of the state to continue using the old Naira notes saying that deadlines on their use are illegal.
This is coming despite the announcement by President Muhammadu Buhari that the N1,000 and N500 old Naira notes are no longer legal tenders.
In a broadcast to the people of Kaduna State, El-Rufai urged them to maintain calm and support democracy, peace, and national unity.

He reassured residents that they would not lose the money they have in old notes and urged them not to be frightened by any artificial and illegal deadlines.
He said the Supreme Court of Nigeria has ordered that the old notes remain legal tender, and no deadline can render them worthless.
The Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007 and the Bills of Exchange Act also oblige the CBN to recognize old notes and exchange them for new notes.
The Kaduna State Government, in collaboration with other institutions, will help residents collect and deliver their old notes to the Kaduna branch of the Central Bank for exchange into new ones after the elections.
GWG.ng reports that the assertions by Gov El-Rufai on the old naira notes deadline could redefine his relationship with President Buhari, a man he had claimed to be his political leader.
