Obaseki disruption of voting

Governor Godwin Obaseki has denied claims that he was at Idia College, Benin City where voting was disrupted by thugs earlier on Saturday.

GWG.ng reports that reports had emerged that thugs allegedly acting on the orders of the governor had invaded Idia College voting units and disrupted the votes there ostensibly to save him from the embarrassment of failing to deliver his voting unit to his party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The seeming aloofness of the Chief Dan Orbih led tendency it was reported had given the impression that Obaseki would fail to deliver votes to the PDP in many parts of the state and hence the attack at Idia College.

However, dismissing the claim in a statement made available to GWG.ng, his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie said:

“The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, does not vote in Idia College, where the voting process was disrupted.

“The report alleging that the Governor Obaseki was at Idia College where voting was disrupted is false and malicious as he does not vote there.

“The governor cast his vote in Emokpae Model Primary School at 11.14am, along Mission Road at which point voting had only just started and returned to his home afterwards. Idia College is along Iyaro, in Benin City, a totally different location.

“The report alleging the contrary is malicious and should be disregarded by the public.

“The governor is committed to peaceful, free and credible conduct of the polls in Edo State and does not condone violent conduct anywhere,” the aide said in dismissing the reports of Governor Obaseki being involved in the disruption of voting in Benin on Saturday.
