Atiku betrayal

By Emmanuel Aziken with Agency Reports

Former Vice-president Atiku Abubakar was on Thursday being alleged to be indifferent as a major political crisis evolved in his political backyard in Adamawa State.

Remarkably, the man at the centre of the controversy Dr. Umar Ardo, a well known associate of the former vice-president who is believed to have family connections with Atiku was disowned by a close associate of Atiku’s on Thursday.

Ardo had stirred the political landscape in Adamawa State on Thursday when he led some other political chieftains to constitute a parallel state executive of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The action is perceived as a direct affront to Governor Umaru Fintiri.

Ardo alleged that the decision was taken because of the sloppiness of the present leadership of the party as led by Mr. Tahir Shehu.

The move was interpreted as a possible challenge to the ascendancy of Governor Fintri who is also known to be an associate of Atiku’s.

Dr. Umar Ardo stirred the crisis

A source in Yola, the state capital, however, discounted Atiku from the crisis. “Atiku has no role in this at this time, he is preferring to be above it,” the source familiar with the developments told GreenWhiteGreen.

An associate of Atiku’s speaking from Abuja while speaking in the same vein said:
“Ardo is a man of himself and is not a boy and is capable of taking his own decisions,” the Atiku associate replied.

Inaugurating a new leadership of the party in Yola on Thursday, Ardo said:

“We expressed with dismay our dissatisfaction with the unconstitutional way  and manner PDP affairs are being conducted in the state and the maltreatment of members who object to such unconstitutional acts.

“If we cannot respect and abide by the constitution of the party, then we certainly do not have a party.

He said they resolved to initiate a movement within the PDP to reform the unhealthy situation of the party in the state.

Ardo said among the decision been taken by the reform PDP include ceasing to recognise the state leadership of the party under Mr Tahir Shehu.

He said the reform PDP in the state has a 12-member interim executive, comprising seven and five members each for the local government and wards, respectively.

Alhaji Hammanjoda Girei was inaugurated as the chairman of the interim committee.

Mr Hussaini Kazil administered the Oath of Office to the new interim committee.

Reacting to the development, the state PDP Chairman (Tahir Shehu) said that as far as he was concerned “PDP is one in Adamawa and there is nothing like reform PDP and Nigeria at large.

“It is only one PDP that is registered by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) .

“And in regard of Dr Umar Ardo,  he is no longer a member of PDP  because he was sacked long time ago by his ward in Jada Local Government Area.”

He warned that anybody that personated or used any thing with PDP logo without the consent of the state party secretariat would be dealt with according to the law.

Ardo had in the past contested for the PDP governorship ticket on at least three times. It is not known if his present efforts are directed towards another contest.
