El Clasico: It Is A Make Or Mar Showdown
By Ekene Dike
One of football’s most interesting fixtures takes place on Sunday in the Santiago Bernabeu as Real Madrid lock horns with arch-rivals Barcelona in the El Clasico.
Both teams are aiming to win the La Liga title this season. A triumph by either of the sides will prove to be a remarkable moment in the intense title race. Barcelona have 55 points and are two points ahead of Los Blancos who have 53 at the top of the table. This shows that the outcome of the result of the game will ascertain the fate of both teams in a bid to clinch the La Liga Santander trophy.
Real Madrid have added a couple of new signings to bolster their star studded squad. Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Eder Militao were the latest additions to the white army under the tutelage of Zinedine Zidane.
The Frenchman is determined to bring silverware to the Santiago Bernabeu following a disappointing and barren spell last season. Following the shocking defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League, they are eager to redeem themselves on home ground and the home advantage can play a crucial role. But, they will have to play without one of their latest acquaintances, Hazard who picked up an injury in their last league match against Levante.
For Barcelona, they are playing with a lot of confidence and team chemistry at the moment. The Catalan giants go into the fixture unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions and once again will need the football genius Lionel Messi to galvanize them to victory.
Furthermore, the Argentine scored four goals against Eibar in the last match in La Liga and that was a stunning performance. The Argentine all-time highest goal scorer will be expected to continue his blistering goal scoring form.
Unfortunately, Luis Suarez will be out of the encounter due to injury. The likes of Antoinne Griezmann and Frenkie De jong will have to perform impressively after the club paid huge fees to acquire their services.
It is an open secret that the dazzling teenage superstar Ansu Fati is one of the weapons of the present Barcelona team and he can rise up to the occasion.
However, the first El Clasico of the new code will be hard to predict. But, Real Madrid who are playing on home turf are more likely to get the favorable result over their dangerous opponents.
