Buhari Should Stop Plot To Disrupt Election In Akwa Ibom – Elders

ELDERS of Akwa Ibom State drawn from across the three senatorial district have called on the international community to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop a plot by chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC to raise mayhem in the state during the presidential and National Assembly elections.

The elders at a press conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Thursday alleged that the plot was orchestrated to cause the kind of mayhem that will make the governorship and other elections to pe postponed to a separate day for the purpose of mobilizing federal forces to intimidate voters.

A former military governor of the state, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga addressed newsmen on behalf of the elders.

He said: “The Uinited Nations, (UN), European Union, (EU) and other renowned defenders of peace are enjoined to call to order this reckless display by the Buhari Government, law enforcement agents and notorious politicians from tearing the treasured fabric of peace enjoyed so far by invoking anarchy in our land.  

“We equally call on the Inspector General of Police to call AIG Musa Kimo to order, as we have it on good authority that he is the agent co-ordinating the security forces to disrupt  the elections.  

“As elders and stakeholders of this State, we want to alert the world of this devious plan.
Elections are the best means for the people to express their will and vote in candidates they believe will best improve their material circumstances, ensure peace and development.

“Akwa Ibom people desire to have a free, peaceful and credible elections  and we will resist every attempts to truncate the will of our people”
