Governor Approves N15,000 Monthly Palliatives For Workers

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has given his approval for a monthly payment of N15,000 to active workers and N10,000 to pensioners in the state, serving as palliatives to alleviate the impact of the Federal Government’s removal of petroleum subsidies.

The payments are set to commence from December 2023 and will extend over a period of six months.

The Permanent Secretary to the Governor, Sunday Fadele, made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday, highlighting that the decision followed negotiation sessions with labor representatives in Osun State, including those from the Nigerian Union of Pensioners. The state government expressed gratitude for the understanding and cooperation shown by Osun State workers and pensioners.

“In acknowledgment of the negotiation meetings and interactions with the labor movement in Osun State, including the representatives of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved the monthly payment of N15,000 to each active worker and N10,000 to each pensioner in Osun State as palliatives to ease the pains resulting from the removal of petroleum subsidy by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The payment, as approved, is to commence from the month of December 2023 for a period of six (6) months.”

“While appreciating the understanding of Osun State workers and pensioners for their show of understanding regarding the efforts of the state government in the last one year to improve tremendously on their welfare, being the first on the 5-Point Action Plan, the present administration will continue to ensure that its commitment to the welfare of workers is met at all times,” noted Fadele.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, echoed the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of workers. This initiative aims to offer immediate relief and reinforce a positive relationship between the government and its employees.
