Nigerian Fish Farmer Laments As Heatwave Kills 1,000 Fishes (Video)
In the wake of the ongoing heatwave spiralling across the country, a Nigerian fish Farmer has reportedly lost 1000 fishes due to excess heat.
This is also coming after the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) issued a cautionary update, revealing that the ongoing excess heat currently witnessed across the country is anticipated to persist in the coming days.
In response to a viral video on Social Media which captured the unfortunate incident, some Netizens on X identified with the farmer over his loss while others gave their professional advice.
Drakson said, “He should have been changing the water frequently, the heat is too much for humans more or less fishes. It would have been like they were getting cooked.”
Chief Batunde Momoh said, ‘Flow through (constant flushing) is the best option. I had to sink a second borehole last week to ensure at least 18 hours flow of water.”
Lovers Home said, “That’s really unfortunate for the fish farmer to lose so many fish due to excessive heat. It’s important to note that high temperatures can be extremely stressful for fish, and it can even lead to mortality.
“In this case, it’s likely that the combination of the excessive heat and the overstocking of the pond led to the fish dying. It’s also possible that there were other factors at play, such as poor water quality or inadequate aeration.
I hope the farmer is able to find a way to mitigate the effects of the heat and prevent further loss of fish.”
