Storm As Lagos School Sends Student Home For Resuming At 8.30 a.m.
A trending video of a lady blowing hot on Book Workshop School, Lagos, for sending her sister back home because she arrived school at 8:30am has sparked controversy on social media.
According to the young lady, her sister, Favour, arrived late at school because she delayed in preparing her lunch food in good time.
She said she was bothered about the time Favour left for school as well.
“Immediately she left the house by 8:18am, after about 20 minutes, I saw Favour back in the house and I was about leaving for work.
“I asked what happened, she said the Principal didn’t allow her to enter into the school premises because she was late.”
“I asked, are you sure you didn’t do something else? She said no. I wasn’t sitting well with the whole report she gave me so I picked up my phone to call the principal who happens to be a new one because the one I use to know left the school,” the lady said.
She further revealed that the principal confirmed that Favour was sent back because she was late.
However, she said that when she tried to suggest that the principal should have punished Favour instead of sending her home because of security reasons, the principal ranted at her which resulted in her going back to the school with Favour.

The situation has since sparked a controversy on social media as touching the appropriate way to discipline a child for late coming.

josh.uawilliams23 reacted, “She is very wrong. The school has laws. This one no b case.”
olami_wale said, “In an educational setting, maintaining discipline is essential but it must be approached with fairness and consideration for the well being of students and their families.
“Sending a student back home because they are late for school is a NO NO!!! Sending a child home without a responsible adult to accompany them is simply unconscionable. Institutions of learning must engage with families in a civil and respectful manner, even in a tense situation.
“The way this school went about handling this issue is a classic example of what not to do when a child comes to school late.”
adoneeric outlined his thoughts, “Number 1 she can go to school by herself meaning she can as well go back home Number 2 if you had put this energy in making this video in preparing her early this would not happen.
“Number 3 I don’t pass judgement hear- ing one side. Parents can be dramatic when they come to school. I am sure she had spoken to them rudely. I am a teacher and I experienced such parents.
Number 4 every school have a policy on how they treat lateness.
“BUT if all she said is true then I will advise the school to review their lateness policy.”
xyigho asked, Nigerians, how do you people think? The issue is not about going to school late, but safety for not being in the school premises.
myrobspage replied xyigho, “And also the safety of the child going back home, what If the parents had gone to work.”
noeil.ng said, “The level of decadence this modern day parents promote is quite astonishing. Ur child went to school late courtesy of ur bad manners and u are here spewing trash. This woke gener- ation, u guys are hell bent on eroding the basic degree of propriety. The school bus arriving late to school may be excused because any child inside the bus is presumed to have already gotten to school, which means that he left home on time, so the fact that the school bus didn’t arrive to school on time is not any fault of the pupil neither is it the parents.
But ur child leaving home at 8:20 is entirely ur fault. U could have allowed her go to school and later u can take her food to her in school instead of allowing her go late. The school is only trying to inculcate the habit of time management and punctuality in her.
“The issue is that we are so used to the abnormal concept of African time that we now find nothing wrong with it and we don’t mind transferring such unspeakable trait to the next generation whilst calling for a better society but no one is ready to be disciplined enough to learn the right values and unlearn the bad ones.”
og.ogbemudia clapped, “Such a SHAMELESS act, just when I thought you’d be making a case for DISCIPLINE, your sister is late and you’re recording a video?? Who raised you young woman? Go and Learn discipline and time management, she’s late, she stays HOME
bigsea_hotels submitted, “The safety of the child is her stand not the child been late even when we are younger they don send back home when we are late to sch, is either u get the rest rooms watched or cut glasses, send a child at the is supper risk and so unprofessional.”
