Police Give Update On Woman Who Resisted Body Search From Policeman
By Gideon Ayeni
The Lagos State Police command has given an update on the raging controversy over an altercation between a policeman and a woman who allegedly resisted a physical search of her body and phone by the policeman.
GWG.ng had earlier reported the story of the circulating video that showed a Nigerian woman boldly resisting a male police officer’s attempt to search her. The footage sparked a heated debate, with many netizens praising the woman’s assertiveness while others supported the police officer’s actions.
In the video, the woman was seen vehemently refusing the officer’s request to search her phone and person, citing her right to privacy and gender-specific search protocols. She questioned the officer’s authority, asking why he, as a male officer, was attempting to search her without a female officer present.
However, in a new development, the Lagos State Police Command has issued a statement addressing the viral video
According to a post posted on his official X handle, Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin said “the incident serves as a “teaching moment” for officers to exercise utmost restraint and professionalism in the face of provocation. While acknowledging that the officer showed restraint, Hundeyin noted that there were moments where emotions got the better of him”.
“Consequently, the officer has been taken in for appropriate actions, and the Command will continue to train personnel to maintain the highest level of professionalism. Aderele Aisha, who drove against traffic and assaulted the officer, has since apologized profusely and tendered a written apology”- Hundeyin statement said in part.

The Lagos Police Command urged the public to maintain decorum and respect in their interactions with security agencies, even in the face of disagreements or provocation that may have been prompted by demands of a search. The statement emphasized the importance of upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability within the Force.
This incident highlights the need for both law enforcement and citizens to prioritize respect and understanding in their interactions, even in challenging situations.
