Abe resignation APC

Senator Magnus Abe’s relevance in the All Progressives Congress, APC was augmented on Saturday as he emerged on the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

He was named among five others including Chief Pius Akinyelure, a bosom friend of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the new board which was constituted strictly on geopolitical basis.

Akinyelure is returning to the board for a second time.

Abe’s emergence on the board is bound to elicit commentaries on the conintued political relevance of Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation. Abe was until not long ago a political follower of Amaechi until the two quarreled in a dispute that cost the APC the state in the last General Election.

Amaechi had fought alongside with Abe in his past political battles and was in the thick of the rerun election that returned Abe to the Senate for a second term in 2015/16.

Both men, however, subsequently slipped into a bitter quarrel following Abe’s insistence on contesting the 2019 governorship election despite the alleged insistence of the members of the Amaechi camp on someone else.

Abe had entered the Rivers State House of Assembly and was minority leader while Amaechi was Speaker.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on the development listed the members of the board thus:

“Members of the new Board are: Mohammed Lawal (North West), Tajudeen Umar (North East), Adamu Mahmood  Attah (North Central), Senator Magnus Abe (South South), Dr Stephen Dike (South East), and Chief Pius Akinyelure (South West).

“The new board will be in place for three years.”
