The National Assembly is set to initiate a law that will grant the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) authority to conduct Local Government election rather than state electoral bodies

This was revealed by Chairman, Senate Services, Senator Sunday, Karimi during the plenary.

GWG.ng reports that this move follows a recent Supreme Court ruling granting autonomy to local government areas, prompted by a federal government lawsuit.

The judgement also forbade state governors from collecting Local council allocations from the federation accounts.

As captured in a trending video clip by TVC, Senator Karimi asked Nigerians to keep faith that the national assembly will ensure compliance by the various state governors.
