Veronica Panarello, a 45-year-old Italian woman, has been convicted of murdering her 11-year-old son, Loris Stival, after he discovered her illicit relationship with his grandfather, Andrea Stival.

She was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the heinous crime.

According to reports, Panarello strangled Loris with electrical cables in November 2014 and abandoned his body in a remote gully in Santa Croce, Sicily. She initially misled authorities by claiming that her son had been kidnapped, stating she had dropped him off at school that day. However, CCTV footage contradicted her alibi.

Prosecutors described Panarello as an “egocentric, manipulative liar” during the trial. Despite being found guilty, she continued to deny the crime and shifted the blame to her father-in-law, Andrea Stival, accusing him of plotting and committing the murder with her.

Andrea Stival, who is being investigated as an accessory to murder, has denied the allegations and threatened to sue Panarello for slander. Her husband has filed for divorce in the wake of the scandal.

The murder of the son by his mother is an unfortunate twist to the blind side of romance when one is infatuated by evil passion.
