Toyin Abraham Trends Over Speed Darlington, Burna Boy Saga

Nigerian actress Toyin Abraham is back in the spotlight, trending on social media as Twitter users react to the arrest and release of rapper Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, which has sparked comparisons to Abraham’s controversial arrest of Twitter influencer Big Ayo earlier this year.

The story of Toyin Abrahim trending began after news surfaced that Speed Darlington had been detained, reportedly on the orders of Burna Boy, for making defamatory comments about the Grammy-winning artiste and his family. Interestingly, many Twitter users who previously condemned Toyin Abraham for a similar situation are now praising Burna Boy for taking the same legal route.

The controversy surrounding Toyin Abraham dates back to July 9, when she was accused of arresting Big Ayo after he claimed she took money from President Bola Tinubu to support him during the 2023 elections and allegedly used part of the funds to pay for her husband’s hair transplant. Although Ayo was not immediately apprehended, his sister and mother were allegedly detained in his place, leading to public outrage. Ayo was later released, but the incident left many questioning Abraham’s actions.

Fast forward to Speed Darlington’s arrest, and the reaction on Twitter has been notably different. Many users are applauding Burna Boy for responding to Akpi’s slanderous comments, with some even justifying the arrest by saying, “Akpi talks too much.” This response is in contrast to the backlash Toyin Abraham faced for her involvement in Big Ayo’s arrest.

Despite the mixed opinions, Speed Darlington was released from police custody last night, adding another layer to the ongoing discourse.

As both incidents continue to be compared, it is clear that public opinion remains divided, with Burna Boy’s fans rallying behind him, while Toyin Abraham’s decision months ago is still met with criticism.
