Keyamo Missing Crew Search

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has shared updates about the search for the crew and passengers missing after the helicopter crash on Thursday.

In a statement made on Friday, Keyamo mentioned that divers are still working to find the remaining bodies from the crash, which happened in the Atlantic Ocean, near Bonny Finima, off the coast of Calabar.

He assured the public that a full update would be provided as soon as there is any significant news. “This is just to update the public that the divers deployed to the scene of the helicopter crash yesterday at the Atlantic Ocean, near Bonny Finima, off the coast of Calabar, during a routine flight are still at work to find the remaining bodies and the wreckage. The ministry will be making a more comprehensive press statement as soon as we achieve some breakthrough,” Keyamo said in a post on his X account.

GWG.ng reports that the helicopter crash in Port Harcourt involved eight people, and so far, three bodies have been recovered, according to the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

The Head of Press and Public Relations for the Ministry, Odutayo Oluseyi, also provided information, stating: “The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has been notified, and emergency response teams were immediately activated. Search and rescue operations are ongoing with the support of the Nigerian Search and Rescue Unit, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the NSIB, and other relevant agencies. Neighboring aerodromes have also been notified for support.”

He added that while no signals from the Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) have been detected, manual efforts to find the crash site are underway. All available resources, including military support and low-flying aircraft, have been sent to help locate and rescue any survivors. As of now, three bodies have been recovered.
