Daniel Bwala, a former aide to Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially resumed duties as the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications (State House) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Bwala’s appointment followed the resignation of Ajuri Ngelale, who previously held the role but stepped down in September due to health concerns affecting his immediate family.

Bwala’s assumption of office was marked by an introductory meeting with State House correspondents on Monday. During his interaction, he clarified his role and emphasized the significance of synergy within Tinubu’s communication team. He noted that his responsibilities mirror those of his predecessor, positioning him as Tinubu’s official spokesperson.

Speaking to journalists, Bwala stated, “The President is the team leader, and every other person functions as he wishes. My role as Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications is self-explanatory. It’s about advancing the mandate of Mr. President.”

Bwala also addressed potential criticisms, affirming his commitment to staying focused on the President’s agenda. He further emphasized that all members of the executive team are unified in their service to the President, referencing Section 5 of the Nigerian Constitution, which vests executive powers in the President.

In a social media post on his X handle, Bwala expressed enthusiasm for his new role:

“Today, I resumed officially as the Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications/Spokesperson (State House). I am happy to have joined a meeting of the robust and fantastic communication team of Mr. President. I love the existing unity among the team and hope we can leverage on that even for more synergy.”

Ajuri Ngelale, who previously held the position, had explained his decision to step down to address pressing medical issues within his nuclear family. Bwala now steps into the role with a pledge to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor and strengthen communication between the presidency and the public.
