A woman accused of murder in Florida claims to have conceived a child with another inmate without any physical contact, using an unconventional method involving air conditioning vents, plastic wrap, and bedsheets.

Daisy Link, 29, who is in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for allegedly killing her husband, gave birth to a baby girl in June. She says the father is fellow inmate Joan Depaz, 23.

Link and Depaz reportedly developed a relationship by talking through the vents of their cells. “Being in isolation for so long, you start talking to this person for hours, and it feels like you’re in the same room,” Link explained.

Depaz, who was eager to become a father, allegedly passed his semen to Link by rolling it in plastic wrap and sending it through the vents. “I did this like five times a day for a month,” Link said. The pair discovered their cells were connected through an L-shaped vent, enabling items to be exchanged. Depaz described the process: “From her room, she could throw something into the vent, and it would land right into mine.”

This unusual story highlights the isolation and creativity within the prison system, as well as the extraordinary measures the pair took to achieve their goal of parenthood.
