The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced an in-depth investigation and immediate prosecution of a woman who physically assaulted its personnel while on duty in Lagos State.

The incident, which has drawn widespread attention following the online circulation of the video of the incident occurred on November 7, 2024, along the Oko-Ado Lekki-Epe Expressway.

According to the FRSC, the assault began when a patrol team flagged down a Toyota Corolla with registration number EPE690HH for a seatbelt violation. Further checks revealed that the vehicle’s documents had expired since December 2022, leading to the car’s lawful impoundment.

While the driver complied with the officers, a female passenger in the vehicle became unruly. She verbally abused the officers, threatened to sue them, and later resorted to physical assault, which persisted even after the vehicle was taken to the FRSC’s Lekki Command premises.

Despite her provocations, the FRSC personnel, under the leadership of Unit Commander Chief Route Commander AM Usman, maintained their professionalism and civility. Their actions were commended by the Corps Marshal, who noted that they exemplified the ideals of the FRSC.

To ensure the matter is appropriately addressed, the FRSC engaged the Divisional Police Officer of Ajah Police Station, who dispatched officers to arrest both the woman and the vehicle’s driver for further investigation.

In a statement signed by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC emphasized the importance of addressing grievances through proper channels rather than resorting to violence. The Corps Marshal assured the public that justice would be served promptly to deter future incidents of this nature.

The FRSC reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for assaults on its personnel and urged road users to respect traffic laws and the officers enforcing them.
