Aisha Yesufu Knocks Kemi Badenoch Over Comment On Nigerian Police

Activist and staunch Labour Party supporter, Aisha Yesufu, has criticized British Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, for her remarks about the Nigerian police during an interview with The Free Press.

Badenoch had shared a negative experience with the Nigerian police, claiming they once stole her brother’s shoes and watch, while contrasting this with her trust in the British police.

Reacting to the interview on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Yesufu questioned the relevance of Badenoch’s Nigerian police experience to the question of trust in British law enforcement.

“Kemi Badenoch should grow up and move on! Context is everything!” Yesufu wrote. “She was asked if she trusts the British police. How is what happened with Nigerian police a reason for her to know if she will trust British police or not?”

Yesufu also criticized Badenoch for dragging Nigeria’s poverty into the conversation, accusing her of lowering standards.

“What also brought in our poverty? If the UK doesn’t give enabling environments for people to loot Nigeria’s wealth and take it there, ‘poor’ and ‘Nigeria’ will not be in the same sentence,” Yesufu stated.

She further called out Badenoch for allegedly projecting a “poverty mentality” on British police standards. “Because the bar is low in Nigeria, it doesn’t mean that she should lower the bar for their police there!”

Yesufu concluded her remarks by admonishing the Nigerian police for the bad reputation they have garnered internationally.

“@PoliceNG, you see your life? Always disgracing us up and down!” she wrote, expressing frustration over the institution’s actions that allegedly led to such comments from Badenoch.

The interview and Yesufu’s response have since sent the social media on frenzy, with social media users offering mixed reactions. Some agreed with Yesufu’s points, while others defended Badenoch’s perspective.
