Valentine’s Day Engagement Ends As Fiancée Recants

A Nigerian man has shared his heartbreak after his fiancée, whom he proposed to on Valentine’s Day, confessed she had fallen out of love with him and insisted on returning the engagement ring.

The emotional story, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), was posted anonymously by the man as he detailed his unexpected ordeal.

According to him, he recently popped the question, only for his fiancée to inform him that her feelings had changed. To add to the shock, she asked him to come and retrieve the engagement ring, signaling the end of their relationship.

Sharing his reaction, he wrote:

“My lady, whom I told you a few weeks ago I got engaged to, just told me she has fallen out of love and asked me to come and take back the ring. She wants to call everything off.”

Despite the pain, he made it clear he would not beg her to stay.

“I told her to send it immediately. I can’t beg a woman to be with me, and I won’t try to convince her—that would be beneath me. Though I’m hurt, I’ll get over it. God knows why it happened.”

He revealed that he had informed her parents, who asked for time to speak with their daughter since she had not yet told them about her decision. However, he remained firm in his stance, stating that her words left no room for reconsideration.

Providing an update, he later disclosed how he handled the situation.

“Good afternoon, sir. I’ve sent a dispatch rider to collect the ring because I’m not in the country and won’t be back soon. No time to waste—I’ll just sell it and use the money for other things.”
