Reactions As Ngige Pokes Tinubu At House Hearing
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
Sharp criticisms have trailed the conduct of the Minster of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, in which the minister referred to Hon Abiodun James Faleke as a small body and other lawmakers as his younger brothers.
A trending video, during the House of Representatives committee meeting to probe issues between the labour minister and the management of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF saw Ngige throw shades at Faleke, the member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency and his political mentor, Ahmed Tinubu.
In the trending video, Ngige said, “you all are like my junior brothers, except Faleke. They say Faleke is up to 60, I don’t know, so you are near my age but at least I’m seven years older than you, I’m sure.
“I am of the same age with your mentor in Lagos, Asiwaju. I was governor with him at the same time, he (referring to Tinubu) won election as senator I was a senator, I’m two-time minister, he isn’t a two time minister.
Faleke responded, “but he (referring to Tinubu) won all his elections, very well.”
Ngige replied, “just like you won your own in Kogi State, you are now the deputy governor and governor of Kogi State.”
“If you yab (pidgin slang that means abuse) me, I will yab you back 10 times. I’m a Lagos boy, you are just a small boy in Lagos (referring to Faleke). Look at this boy, Mushin boy. He is talking to a VI boy. I live in Victoria Island, look at Mushin boy from Kogi State. I no get your time.”
The video of the incident went viral on the social media, sparking reactions on the unnecessary drama created by the minister, instead of addressing the core issues, that brought him before the committee.
This is not the first time in recent days that Nigerians will witness dramas at the National Assembly. Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and Joi Nuineh, former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, had earlier displayed drama of accusations and counter-accusations at the National Assembly.
The acting managing director of the NDDC, Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei also created a scene, on Monday, at the National Assembly, when he fainted, during the panel questioning on how monies were spent in the NDDC.
