Police Confirm Release Of 4 Chinese Nationals

THE Police in Cross River State in the southern part of Nigeria, Sunday confirmed the release of the four Chinese national kidnapped in the state on July 21.

Public Public Relations Officer in the state, Irene Ugbo who refused giving details of the release, however, said she was not aware if any ransom was paid.

She said: “The  police and other sister security agencies in collaboration with the state government secured the release of the four Chinese nationals at Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River State.

“Working in collaboration with the state government, we were able to secure the release of the Chinese nationals in Akpabuyo at about 1700 hours on Saturday.

“They are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital and no arrest has been made yet and I am not also aware of any payment of ransom for their release.”

Confirming the release of the foreigners, an official of the company insisted the hoodlums had demanded N100million for the release of the Chinese, but later reduced the amount to N22million.

The source, an indigene of the state who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “N22million was paid for their release and the police and state government having been informed of the drop off point, went to rescue them.”

The Chinese, Kan Jinxi, Hujin Chang, Jiang Jijun and Cheng Qing, where abducted at the premises of Danatrite construction company on July 21 with a policeman stationed at the facility killed during the incident.
