Seven Nigerians, out of eight arrested for participating in the #EndSARS protest in Egypt have been slated for deportation.
The development was made known in a series of tweets, on Monday, by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NIDCOM), which was retweeted by the chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
The commission disclosed that seven of the protesters had no resident permits.
Recall that eight Nigerians were arrested in Cairo, Egypt, on 18th October, 2020, for protesting against police brutality and call for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Nigeria.
Giving an update, NIDCOM said the only Nigerian with resident permit among the eight arrested in Cairo will get final clearance from the Egyptian Interior Minister after signing an undertaking.
NIDCOM said, “The Egyptian authorities have said that Seven out of the eight Nigerians who protested in Egypt on 18 October, will be deported to Nigeria for lack of resident permits/ visas.
“The only Nigerian among them who has Residency will get final clearance from the Egyptian Interior Minister, Mahmoud Tawfik after signing an undertaking not to be involved in unauthorized activities while still in the country.”
