Pastor Tunde Bakare, Serving Overseer, the Citadel Global Community Church has given reasons why he did not participate in the recent #EndSARS Protest.

Recall that Bakare and some other leading figures organised protests in 2012 against some policies of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Since the onset of the present administration led by President Muhamadu Buhari, some Nigerians say Pastor Bakare and some of those who protested in the past have been quiet in the face of harsh economic policies, nationwide insecurity and damning human rights abuses.

Pastor Bakare is a long-time associate of President Buhari and was his running mate when they contested under the banner of CPC in 2011.

In an interview with Daily Independent he gave reasons for being silent this time around.

“Because this is another season and it is the turn of young people to take their destinies in their own hands. Check what I’m about to tell you because there are people who took snapshots.

“I participated in this #EndSARS march in Abuja when lawyers blocked the Attorney General and Minister of Justice’s office. I went there and spoke to them. I went to the Attorney-General and spoke to him and they dispersed. I don’t do things for publicity stunt so that people could see me. Deep rivers flow in majestic silence.”
