Fury As Presidency Claims Only 10 Katsina Students Abducted

A fight has broken out on social media after the presidency on Monday alluded to claims that only 10 students were still missing from last Friday’s attack by bandits on a Government Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.

The claim by presidential spokesman was immediately denounced by opposition critics with former presidential aide, Reno Omokri leading the charge.

Omokri’s attack was accentuated by former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode who quoted news reports first made by Daily Trust and also reported by GWG that as many as 668 students may still be unaccounted for.

Reporting on the latest development on Monday afternoon, Garba Shehu said:

“Some of the returning students debriefed by the military disclosed that 10 of their colleagues were taken by the bandits. As I said to the BBC, that still needed to be verified.

“Of course this is different from saying that all the others had been been accounted for. The forests and neighboring villages are being searched and parents are being contacted for information about their children.”

Shehu was immediate countered by Omokri who said:

“Masari, the Governor of Katsina, who physically went to GSSS Kankara, said over 333 boys are missing. Garba Shehu, @GarShehu, who has not gone there, says only 10 boys are missing. Even in such a difficult time, the #Buhari administration still thrives on lies!”

Fani-Kayode on his part said:

“According to the school registrar 668 students were abducted and are still missing after the raid on the school in Katsina statem

“668 and NOT 333 as the media are reporting! This is a national tragedy and a total and complete outrage. What is our Government doing about it?”
