574 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria

574 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Nigeria on Monday, February 15, 2021 the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has reported.

The 574 new cases followed the 520 new cases that were reported the day before. However, GWG reported that the 520 new cases reported on Sunday did not include any report of Lagos, the epicenter of the pandemic in Nigeria.

The new cases brought the total number of cases reported since the outbreak of the pandemic last February to 146,928 out of which 123,009 cases have been successfully managed and discharged.

The NCDC, however, reported 9 deaths on Monday which brought the total mortality since the outbreak of the pandemic to 1,761.

The new cases reported on Monday were from 20 states and the FCT.

GWG reports that of the 574 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, that Kwara had the highest number of new infections with 98 new cases followed by Lagos and Edo States respectively with 81 and new cases.

Besides the report of 574 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, the authorities in Edo State said on Monday that it had in the preceding 72 hours, recorded 103 new cases and three more deaths from coronavirus (COVID-19), as the government intensifies enforcement of compulsory use of facemasks and other guidelines to contain the second wave of the pandemic.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this on Monday during a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Obi noted that the state, within the same timeframe, recorded 60 new recoveries and six more health workers infection, urging residents to complement government’s efforts at containing the pandemic by strictly adhering to all safety and health guidelines.

“We also recorded six more health workers infection with 835 active cases who are currently being treated at various treatment and isolation centres in the state,” he said.
